May 9th, 2026, Edmonton’s Jihong Wushu Tai Chi College turned in a historic performance at the 44th Can-Am International Martial Arts Championship in Vancouver, bringing home a stunning haul of medals and cementing its dominance on the international stage. The elite team swept the podium in both Tai Chi forms and Tai Chi Push-Hands(Tui Shou).
The Edmonton squad displayed deep technical mastery in the senior divisions, completely dominating the over‑60 age group. Raymond Ma demonstrated flawless precision and versatility, capturing five gold medals in five different events – Chen style, Yang style, Wu style, Yang 32‑form sword, and Chen style sword. His absolute dominance earned him the highly coveted title of “Over‑60 Male Tai Chi Grand Champion.” Matching his level, Dianne Weicker took home the “Over‑60 Female Tai Chi Grand Champion” title with a gold medal in Yang 32‑form sword and a hard‑fought silver in traditional Yang style fist.
The momentum carried onto the pushing hands arena. In the high‑intensity, full‑contact Tai Chi Push-Hands competition, Edmonton’s Jihong competitors proved unstoppable. Richard Anderson led the charge, capturing double gold in both fixed‑step and moving‑step events, and ultimately receiving the championship’s highest honours: the Push-Hands Grand Champion trophy and the “King of the Ring” title. Richard is a highly decorated student of Jihong Tai Chi. Since his first competition in 1996, he has won every push-hands event he entered in Canada. He also won the Middleweight Champion and Overall Grand Champion at the 1999 U.S. National Tai Chi Championships; two-time Pan-American Wushu Championships Tui Shou champion; the Canadian National Chinese Wrestling Championship title; two-time 70 kg champion at the International Tai Chi Push Hands Ring Competition in Jiaozuo, China; the 70 kg champion at the Handan International Tai Chi Championships; the 70 kg Push Hands champion at the Hong Kong International Martial Arts Open; and the 70 kg champion at the Chaoshan International Martial Arts Invitational Competition.
Returning to the arena once again, he led a new generation to even greater glory while competing alongside them. Teammates Jordan, Alex, and Jerrett also excelled, each achieving a perfect record of two gold medals – one in fixed‑step and one in moving‑step pushing hands – within their respective weight classes. In an exceptionally competitive division, Owen fought through a series of gruelling matches to claim two silver medals (moving‑step and fixed‑step), completing a near‑total medal sweep for the Edmonton team.
